2023 Maison Sanglier Pinot Noir
Maison Sanglier translates to ‘House of the Wild Boar,’ which is a play on (1) our Wild Boar Cellars label [originally derived from our location on Hogback Mountain) and (2) a term traditionally used for a domain/wine producer in Burgundy. The label was created for our project in Burgundy. In late-2016, the Hubers purchased vineyard sites in and around the famous Burgundian village of Pommard. These holdings have now been sold. The label Vin de France generally applies to table wines sourced from throughout the country, this wine was sourced from only vineyards throughout Burgundy. The 2023 year had a lovely long growing season. Like what they enjoyed in 2022. The nose of this wine shows some lovely fresh fruit, raspberry is dominate. On the palate we experience the continuation of the fresh fruit we have on the nose. Unlike some Pinot Noir, this wine remains fresh and vibrant, and we do not see the introduction of earthy components we often see with the varietal. The result is a fresh fruit forward Pinot Noir which pairs with wide variety of foods including duck, chicken, pork. Like with many fruit forward Pinot Noirs, pair this one with grilled fish of any kind. Vegetarians will enjoy this with fresh many grilled vegetables – veggie risotto, butternut squash, and Brussels sprouts are a wow! Enjoy this wine now through 2027 – keep it fresh.
